Cromwell Planning Board Approves Hotel Liquor Permit, Trims Subdivision Bond

Planning and Zoning · Meeting of June 17, 2026

Cromwell Planning and Zoning approves hotel liquor permit, cuts subdivision bond, and debates housing law strategy. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to grant a special permit for alcoholic beverage service at the Spring Hill Suites, 76 Berlin Road, to new owner MNM Hotels Cromwell LLC. Applicant Millen Patel said the bar would operate from 5 to 11 p.m. daily, serving hotel guests, restoring an amenity held by the previous owner.

The board also unanimously reduced the performance bond for the Cromwell Estates eight-lot subdivision from $20,975.64 to $2,622, reflecting completion of seven of the eight lots, on a recommendation from CZEO Bruce Driska. The meeting's longest discussion centered on a draft text amendment intended to shield the town's Business Park zone from Connecticut's middle housing law, with land use attorney Peter Olson, retained through consultant Francisco Gomes of IMAG, recommending the zone be renamed "Industrial Business Park" and restructured within the zoning document; Olson cautioned that the approach has not yet been tested in court.
